Wanclouds’ 2025 Cloud & AI Index surveyed 500 IT leaders to explore the evolving intersection of AI and cloud computing

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Nearly nine out of ten U.S. IT decision-makers (89%) plan to increase their cloud budgets in 2025, with artificial intelligence (AI) workloads cited as the primary driver of this spending growth. These findings are part of Wanclouds‘ newly released 2025 Cloud & AI Index, which surveyed 500 U.S. IT leaders to explore the evolving intersection of AI and cloud computing. The report, from the AWS, Google Cloud, and IBM Cloud partner, reveals that the cloud is no longer viewed merely as a cost-efficient solution for data protection but as a strategic platform for driving AI innovation. In fact, 81% of IT leaders say that the primary reason for a bigger budget in 2025 is AI, specifically, the need to house more AI workloads in the cloud.

“Our research shows that organizations are not only investing heavily in cloud resources to support their AI initiatives but are also leveraging AI to optimize their cloud infrastructure.”

“The convergence of cloud computing and AI is fundamentally reshaping enterprise technology strategies,” said Faiz Khan, CEO of Wanclouds. “Our research shows that organizations are not only investing heavily in cloud resources to support their AI initiatives but are also leveraging AI to optimize their cloud infrastructure.”

With AI models demanding unprecedented computing power and resources, businesses are rapidly scaling their cloud investments to remain competitive in an increasingly digital-first world. Public cloud platforms provide access to high-performance GPUs, which are critical for training and running AI applications. However, these platforms come with significant costs, prompting organizations to explore private cloud, as well as hybrid and multi-cloud environments as cost-effective alternatives.

Hybrid and multi-cloud environments, which are used by 84% of organizations, allow IT teams to distribute AI workloads across public and private clouds and on-premise infrastructure, optimizing performance and costs while addressing regulatory and security concerns. Private clouds, in particular, are gaining popularity for AI workloads. The survey found that 52% of respondents are hosting most of their AI workloads on private clouds, citing the ability to customize technology stacks and better control over sensitive data.

AI isn’t just a driver of cloud demand—it’s also emerged as a new tool for managing cloud environments. According to the report, 61% of IT leaders are already using AI to optimize their cloud infrastructure, with AI assistants and automation tools emerging as the most desired solutions. AI-powered virtual assistants for cloud management were identified as a top priority, with IT leaders citing faster decision-making (24%) and reduced manual effort (22%) as key benefits. These tools are helping organizations reduce complexity and improve efficiency in an era where managing cloud environments is more critical than ever.

Additional Key Findings

  • AI is increasingly recognized as a cornerstone of overall cloud transformation strategies, with 53% of organizations reporting it as very important and an additional 18% considering it critical
  • Organizations are optimistic about the timeline for AI to deliver measurable business value, with 67% expecting to see results within the first year of implementing AI within their cloud infrastructure

Wanclouds’ 2025 Cloud & AI Index underscores the growing interplay between AI and cloud computing as enterprises strive to harness the power of both technologies. As businesses invest in the next generation of cloud infrastructure, they are reshaping their strategies to meet the demands of the AI era.
