Less than one month after Superbowl 56 on Saturday, March 12th, almost 300 players aged between 5 and 15 took to the turf in SoFi stadium for the AFFL Youth Flag Football World series qualifying tournament. For some parents it was their first time putting a team together just to expereince walking out onto the field just like the Rams did at the Superbowl. For others it was a little more serious as they came to win it all and advance to the Flag Football World series in Florida in 2023. “All-out” flag football from Bakersfield, CA made 3 Championship games in the 8U/12U & 15U age divisions winning 2 out of the 3 age groups. “High Intensity” another CA based group of flag football players made the Championship game in the 8U and 10U divisions but fell short in both. “Darkside” made the trip from Vegas to compete and ended up winning the 6U division to advance.
“It was a once in a lifetime experience for the players to play at SoFi stadium which still had the Superbowl logo on the field and a few scattered pieces of confetti left over from the big game”, on top of the games, the families also got to check out the Rams and Chargers locker rooms which was very cool said AFFL Youth CEO Austin Bradshaw. We were happy to be able to hold our tournament at SoFi stadium which was a one of a kind facility and experience.
The next stop on the AFFL tour is FedEx field in MD, home of the Commanders on April 2nd, then onto to the historical Harvard stadium in Boston, MA, June 25th/26th where over 250 teams will meet for the biggest tournament of the youth flag football calender.
