NEW YORK, Jan. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — BIA, a leading national eDiscovery and digital forensics software and services provider, announced today its new data breach discovery service. The new offering combines cybersecurity methodologies and electronic discovery technology to quickly identify personal or sensitive data that may have been affected in a breach. In addition to identifying potentially compromised data, the service aims to help companies avoid regulatory action or litigation.

“There’s a significant demand for data breach discovery, and it is a natural outgrowth of the services BIA offers and has honed over our 15 plus years in eDiscovery,” said Brian Schrader, BIA’s president and CEO. “We’re excited to offer this much-needed service in partnership with Ryan Bilbrey, founder of Reckoning Consulting Partners, who has handled numerous data breach matters. Ryan brings an expertise and strategy that marries well with BIA’s forensic capabilities, litigation technology, proven processes and data management expertise. Together, we will help affected companies or law firms quickly resolve a data breach and allow everyone to sleep easier.”

In 2017, there were a reported 1,579 data breaches in the U.S., which exposed nearly 158 million Social Security numbers, according to the 2017 Data Breach Year-End Review. The number of data breaches has been increasing every year, with 2017 showing a 44.7 percent increase over 2016.

“No company wants to experience a data breach. But when one occurs, the response must be swift and precise. There is no margin for error. That’s where data breach discovery comes in,” said Bilbrey. “A data breach can end up costing a company significant amounts of pain and money. Taking too long to identify the people involved and what information was exposed can cause costs to explode. The trick, as is with any eDiscovery-type project, is to get in front of it with a proven solution that, by its nature, insulates the corporation or law firm from those big dollar events.”

When a data breach occurs, the compromised entity must determine what exactly was exposed and who exactly was affected. Getting that information requires specific tools and trained personnel to handle the data collection, analysis and reporting. It may also require the review of data, which can be voluminous. BIA provides the talent, infrastructure and proven solutions that fully support the reconnaissance of a cyber breach so it can be performed quickly, accurately and securely. Unlike the attack, the solution requires more skill and experience than pure brute force.

“Because of our years of work in the eDiscovery industry, we have various technologies to handle collection, analysis, reporting and document review, including ones that use a kind of artificial intelligence to understand what you’re searching for and help you find it. Plus, we have a resident team of licensed attorneys on staff who, if needed, can manually review files within our secure, controlled environment,” said Schrader. “With Ryan’s experience, workflows and guidance, it’s an easy and smart transition to use our methods for cybersecurity purposes.”
