Polk County Unveils JailDash-Powered Jail Dashboard for Incarceration Metrics

Press Releases

Apr 02, 2025

CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Last month the Polk County Iowa Sheriff’s Department in collaboration with CJCC released their publicly available jail dashboard which provides monthly incarceration metrics to its constituents.

Polk County worked with data analytics and artificial intelligence firm, AICG, headquartered in the Carolinas to produce the jail dashboard using AICG’s JailDash platform.

The Polk County Jail Dashboard was initiated in a collaborative effort between the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Board of Supervisors, and the Polk County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.

“This dashboard will equip users with the tools necessary to make informed decisions in real time,” said Polk County Supervisor Board Chair Matt McCoy and 2025 CJCC Chair. “I’m excited for community engagement using this tool & data we’ve never had before.”

The JailDash platform is the modern approach to delivering a curated jail dashboard to the public. It gives any jail the technology footprint for basic to advanced data integration to deliver appealing graphs, charts, and trending visualizations that communicate jail insights clearly.

According to the American Jail Association, in 2007’s Who’s Who in Jail Management, there were 3,096 counties in the United States, which were being served by 3,163 jail facilities. And, according to VERA (https://www.vera.org/news/u-s-jails-and-prisons-explained), in 2022, roughly 2,850 local jails scattered across the country held about 658,000 people on any given day. These numbers have meaning at a grand scale but JailDash allows for each jail’s metrics to be relevant at a local level not just as an aggregate.

“Our platform securely captures any jail’s data, usually from the jail management system, which is then curated based on universal performance metrics, and a jail’s own informational goals. The jails have control over the data shared, while still providing the public a view into data metrics and other information with a lens of accountability and awareness. It’s a win-win,” says Christian Screen, CEO of AICG and the JailDash platform.

When a jail does not have a jail dashboard publicly available, the jail and its staff are frequently questioned about the jail’s statistics such as average jail population and demographic breakdowns, often reaching unverified, inconsistent or inaccurate results and conclusions. When a jail dashboard is present, facts are available to both the jail staff and the public, reducing jail staff’s time answering these questions, while increasing the confidence and accuracy of all involved.

“Providing the public a snapshot of the population trends within the Polk County Jail provides a unique perspective,” said Polk County Sheriff Kevin Schneider. “In my interactions with our community, people are always interested in the information this dashboard will provide. It is my hope this will entice other parts of the Polk County justice system to strive to achieve something similar within their respective areas.”
