Establishing a long-lasting and successful business is a feat that requires hard work, dedication, and a passion for one’s craft. Cameron Goolsby & Gross, a Cookeville, Tennessee based law firm which was created by Arnold Cameron as a solo practice in 1946, exemplifies all of these qualities. Over the years, the firm has gained recognition in the legal industry, and its reputation has grown. With nearly 120 years of combined experience, the firm has served more than 20,000 clients and has recovered more than 30 million dollars on their behalf.  Attorney Bill Cameron offered an exclusive peek into the fascinating transformation of Cameron Goolsby & Gross over the years, giving personal insights to this writer.

William A. Cameron Attorney

Arnold Cameron, the founder of the firm, received his law degree in 1940, and six years later, he established his solo practice. Several years later, Cameron partnered with other lawyers to create a new firm, which was located on South Jefferson Avenue, where the firm remains to this day. Cameron’s solo experience helped him understand the importance of providing personalized legal services to clients, and that has been the foundation of the firm’s focus on client satisfaction.

In 1968, Arnold Cameron’s son, William “Bill” A. Cameron, who had graduated from Vanderbilt University, joined the firm. This marked the beginning of a new era of growth and expansion for the firm. Bill brought with him a fresh perspective, and he began to focus on personal injury, criminal, and domestic work, in addition to the firm’s existing practices in real estate, civil law, and insurance work. The broadening of the firm’s areas of focus helped to further solidify the firm’s place in the legal industry.

In 1972, Arnold Cameron’s daughter, Anne Cameron, also joined the firm. Anne was also a graduate of Vanderbilt University, and her legal expertise furthered the evolution of the business. The addition of Anne to the team allowed the firm to expand its practice areas even further, providing legal services to clients in more areas of law and expanding the firm’s reach.  Tragically, Anne lost her battle with breast cancer in 1988 and Arnold followed her in death in 1993. Their legacies, however, live on as a testament to their love, their passion for excellence, and the mark they left on the world.

Meet Lindsay Cameron Gross, the third-generation lawyer who continues her family’s legacy of serving clients since 2009, with a unique background in journalism, collegiate athletics, and community service work.  Lindsay’s hands-on approach ensures that each client is guided through their case with care and attention to detail. Her expertise in child welfare law has made her a trusted servant to the courts, ensuring that children are given the care they need in both private cases and those involving the Department of Children’s Services.

In 2019, the fourth generation emerged.  Bradford G. Wood, Jr. joined the practice alongside his grandfather and aunt.  Brad’s political science background and relatable personality serves the office and his clients well, and he also serves the community as an attorney for the Town of Monterey, Tennessee.

Throughout its impressive 77-year history, this law firm boasts four generations of attorneys and has played an undeniable role in shaping the legal world. Amidst numerous achievements, one particularly stands out: the firm’s commitment to cultivating young talent. Over the years, over 20 attorneys have had the privilege of learning from seasoned professionals, helping to establish themselves as respected legal practitioners in their own right.

One such attorney is the highly respected Nolan Goolsby.  Starting his career in 1979, with the renowned legal minds of Rankin Bennett as well as David Ledbetter, Nolan picked up invaluable title search knowledge from attorney Anne Cameron to become an ace in real estate law, civil law, and estate planning.  Mr. Goolsby later served Putnam County as General Sessions Judge from 1996 onward. After leaving the judicial bench, Nolan Goolsby’s unwavering connection to Anne Cameron and the firm, which included her mentorship, led him there in 2014. This respect and dedication to mentorship and career development is just one example of the Cameron’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

The evolution of Cameron Goolsby & Gross is a testament to the family’s commitment to providing excellent legal services to clients. With nearly 120 years of combined experience, the firm has continued to grow and expand its areas of focus, all while maintaining its core values of professionalism, integrity, and personalized service. They have set a standard for other law firms to follow and have built a reputation as one of the best firms in Putnam County, Tennessee and beyond. It is through the firm’s passion for their craft and dedication to their clients that Cameron Goolsby & Gross has become a prominent and respected name in the legal industry.
