Am Law 200 Achieves Record-breaking Growth for 2022

ALM Publishes Annual Ranking of 200 Highest-Grossing Law Firms

New York, NY – May 25, 2022 — ALM has released the full 2022 Am Law 200 data, providing a detailed look at the financial health of an industry that performed astonishingly well in 2021. Just over half of the Am Law 200 firms reported double-digit revenue growth. The 2022 Am Law 200 data, detailing the Second Hundred largest law firms by gross revenue, and several articles analyzing the results are available now on Law.com and will be made available in the June 2022 print issue of The American Lawyer.  

This year’s full Am Law 200 data shows gross revenue across all 200 firms grew by 13.9%, net income increased by 18.4%, profits per equity partner grew by 18.2%, revenue per lawyer increased 11.8 percent, and headcount rose 1.9%.

“While the Am Law 100 continued to pull away from the Second Hundred in terms of financial performance, there is no doubting that the largest 200 law firms in the country collectively had one of the best years in their history,” said Gina Passarella, Editor-in-Chief of The American Lawyer and ALM’s Global Legal Brands. “But as our analysis in the June issue shows, shifting market dynamics and a potential recession will require the Second Hundred firms to tighten up their strategic plans to ensure this unprecedented year is the foundation for further growth and not a blip.”
