BLOOMINGTON, Minn., March 17, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Naviga Inc. was announced as a finalist in the 2022 International News Media Association (INMA) Global Media Awards in the category of Best Innovation in Newsroom Transformation. The nomination highlights Naviga’s joint solution with The Globe and Mail’s automation and optimization engine Sophi.io for automating print production: Naviga Publisher powered by Sophi.io. This solution allowed Agderposten, a daily newspaper located in Norway, to gain efficiencies while reducing costs and freeing up resources in the newsroom.

With the events of 2020 making subscription revenue key for publications across the industry, many publishers have needed to find a solution that allows them to support print production while shifting focus to monetizing digital content. Automating the print production process allows newsrooms to consolidate print and digital processes on a unified platform, while saving resources and allowing their journalists to focus on what matters most: creating quality content for their readers.

Naviga Publisher powered by Sophi.io uses artificial intelligence and machine learning technology to automate print manufacturing for entire publications at the press of a button. Publishers can streamline and modernize their businesses through customized workflows, with a solution that keeps the same look and feel as when it was produced by the editorial team.

“With the newsroom constantly changing, the technology being used by publishers also needs to evolve,” said Scott Roessler, CEO of Naviga. “Our partnership with Agderposten and Sophi.io has allowed us to create a cutting-edge solution that changes the playing field, giving publishers the opportunity to improve efficiency in the newsroom while reducing resources.”

Naviga and Sophi.io worked directly with Agderposten when developing their print automation solution, before officially releasing the product in October 2020. Naviga Publisher, powered by Sophi.io, has enabled the publication to unify print and digital content management systems, shorten the production process, free up their journalists’ time and greatly reduce the cost per page printed. In fact, when looking at costs, Agderposten has seen an estimated total savings of about 60% when factoring in licenses and other external costs.

“We’ve been thrilled to see the results that Agderposten has achieved since automating their print manufacturing process and can’t wait to continue seeing their growth,” said Roessler.

Agderposten now has up to 80% of its layout automated by the AI solution and has started using Publisher on four more of its newspapers – with another 15 papers on schedule to implement the solution this year.

Øyvind Klausen, Director of Business Development at Polaris Media Sør, the parent company of Agderposten, stated that he expected cost savings and efficiency to continue to increase as more of Agderposten’s pages were automated and more of its newspapers implemented Naviga Publisher powered by Sophi.io.

The Global Media Awards, which have been presented by INMA since 1937, received 854 entries from 252 news brands across 46 countries this year. The judges for the awards consist of 50 media experts from 24 countries who focused across 20 categories, including news brands, media platforms, subscriptions, advertising, data and insights, product, and newsrooms. They announced 333 finalists on March 8 and will announce first place winners on June 9.
