DALLAS, July 28, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Public restrooms, gathering spaces, airports, retail stores, restaurants, subways, busses, office buildings, hospitals, schools, universities are faced with the challenges of re-opening in a safe and secure manner after several months of state-mandated ON/OFF lockdowns. After 239 scientists worldwide wrote an open letter to the World Health Organization, both WHO and CDC finally acknowledged the possibilities of airborne transmission, expected to overwhelm manual contact tracing requirements.
The COVID19 virus can float in the air for up to three hours and remain on surfaces for days and, to a certain degree, spread that way. The current digital contact tracing solutions, including the Apple-Google platform, limits contact tracing to an exchange between two people in close contact AT THE SAME TIME by having them exchange the private keys at that time only, thereby, limiting tracing capabilities with respect to the airborne or fomite transmissions. In other words, if two people visit the same restroom a few minutes apart, their phones will not exchange keys as their visits in the same space are sometime apart, resulting in a SPACE-TIME Limitation.
Dallas-based MeshTek Labs has developed a hardware and software solution compatible with Apple-Google and Bluetooth based tracing applications that make it possible to track airborne and fomite infection spreads.
“As COVID19 viruses “surf” the air and a variety of surfaces in heavily used public spaces, digital contact tracing solutions can help track virus “outbreaks” in these spaces by simply installing MeshTek plug and play devices. The device does not need any configuration or any network, providing ultimate privacy protection and data security,” said Swapnil Bora CEO of MeshTek Labs. “We have partnered with various well-respected organizations including MIT based Path Check Foundation and we are working on various pilots.
“MeshTek’s device complements the PathCheck exposure notification and case management solution, addressing an important aspect of notifying people if they were exposed to infected spaces,” said Ramesh Raskar, an MIT professor and founder of the PathCheck Foundation.

The MeshTek Labs solution works with all Apple-Google exposure notification apps and relies on standard Bluetooth devices in the form of wall plugs, light bulbs, fixtures, occupancy sensors, etc. The MeshTek device can be either installed independently or the solution can be enabled in any third party BLE devices such as wall plugs, lights, and sensors. The solution enables any BLE device with built-in clock, dynamic range selection BLE from 5ft to 100ft with robust networking protocol, and edge computing.
“The MeshTek Labs solution solves an important aspect of the problem of COVID19 airborne and fomite exposure detection and transmission,” said Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, one of ABC’s “Sharks” on the hit show Shark Tank, “In addition, testing and exposure detection is the key to keeping workers, students, shoppers, and the general population safe and jumpstarting the economy.”
