Press Releases

Sep 12, 2019

EWING, N.J., Sept. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — GS1 US® will host a hackathon on October 19-20, 2019 in San Francisco, CA focused on solving the challenges associated with tracking and tracing products in the supply chain. The GS1 US Trace-a-thon provides an opportunity for developers to leverage technologies like blockchain, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to build an innovative solution that brings visibility to the supply chain. A panel of judges will award a prize pool of $20,000 across multiple categories, with the winning idea receiving $10,000.

WHO: The trace-a-thon is open to developers, designers or supply chain managers with interests in supply chain application development, data science, AI, machine learning, blockchain, and various coding languages such as JSON, XML and JavaScript.

WHAT: At the Trace-a-thon, members of the developer community, with support from mentors from various industries who are versed in supply chain standards, will create solutions that address critical supply chain issues related to product visibility and traceability. As consumers expect a new level of transparency from brands and retailers, traceability is essential to building trust and enabling quick responses to recalls or issues throughout any point in the supply chain. The winning solution must document the stages a product moves through in the supply chain using GS1 Standards, and demonstrate interoperability of external data management systems, i.e. both a small supplier company with limited technology experience must be able to use it, as well as a large corporation with sophisticated systems.

WHEN: Saturday, October 19 (8:00am to 12:00 am) and Sunday October 20, 2019 (8:00 am to 6:00 pm)

WHERE: Broadway Studios, 435 Broadway St. San Francisco, CA
