APPLETON, Wis., April 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — The National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) has voiced its support of the Taxpayer First Act of 2019 [S 928, HR 1957]; a bipartisan bill aimed at modernizing the IRS structure and systems and developing a comprehensive customer service strategy.

In an April 9 letter to ranking members of the House Committee on Ways and Means and the Senate Finance Committee, NATP stated, “We applaud your efforts to improve the administrative practices at the Internal Revenue Service and taking on the long overdue challenge of reforming the IRS so that it is better equipped to serve the tax professional and their taxpayer clients.”

NATP, an association serving 23,000 federal tax professional members and working on behalf of all who work in the tax preparation industry, believes that taxpayers, tax professionals and IRS staff deserve to function within a modern structure that improves the overall tax administration process.

While not included in this Act, NATP specifically noted its support of legislation that would build greater due diligence consistency across all categories of tax preparation; among them would be paid preparers, tax software, artificial intelligence tools and VITA, for example. It is the position of the association that the term paid preparer needs better definition and awareness that it extends beyond the traditional tax professional.

NATP commended the efforts of the Chairman, Ranking Members, and the other co-sponsors for their leadership and persistence on these issues.
