Brainomix® is the sole imaging partner for the community of more than 1,000 hospitals enrolled in the Angels Initiative

OXFORD, England, Dec. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — The Angels Initiative, a unique healthcare initiative launched by Boehringer Ingelheim in partnership with the European Stroke Organisation (ESO), the World Stroke Organisation (WSO) and the Stroke Alliance for Europe (SAFE), is this year’s winner of the prestigious European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) “Health Collaboration” award in the category Service Delivery. Brainomix is the programme’s sole imaging partner. The Angels Initiative is aiming to increase the number of stroke ready hospitals and to optimise the quality of treatment in stroke centres across Europe and beyond.

e-ASPECTS®, the breakthrough AI medical imaging software developed by Brainomix, is the Initiative’s only imaging solution for stroke. One of the main areas of uncertainty in the acute treatment of stroke is the interpretation of the brain CT scan to decide on the appropriate treatment. e-ASPECTS addresses this problem using artificial intelligence to help clinicians assess stroke damage on brain CT scans. This collaboration between Brainomix and the Angels Initiative has demonstrated the willingness of both parties to expedite and improve stroke treatment across Europe and beyond, which is the second largest killer disease worldwide.

The Angels Initiative scored highly on the online evaluation phase of this year’s “Health Collaboration” Awards programme and the jury panel described it as the most valuable initiative in its category as it has delivered transformational change on stroke care across multiple countries. The significant reduction in treatment delay and the clear evidence on stroke patient benefits have also been highlighted as powerful points that make this project stand out.

Brainomix CEO and co-founder, Dr Michalis Papadakis said: “Brainomix is honoured to be part of such an exemplar initiative improving the lives of so many stroke patients. This award showcases our strong commitment to improving stroke treatment through collaboration. Brainomix has been working closely with the Angels Initiative to offer e-ASPECTS to participating hospitals as a training tool, to improve referrals in stroke networks and to improve CT scan interpretation. We are looking forward to carry on supporting fast and consistent stroke imaging to hospitals who are part of the Angels Initiative.”

Project Lead of the Angels Initiative, Jan van der Merwe said: “We are delighted to see our efforts recognised by EFPIA and cannot give enough thanks to our partners, like Brainomix and the community of all the hospitals who are working hard every day to give stroke patients a second chance for life.”
