KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Zego, the hub for smarter apartment living, today announced a landmark partnership with S2 Capital, in cooperation with Amazon, to extend its novel smart apartment platform to 30,000 S2 apartment units over three years. Zego’s unique solution integrates smart home devices with a single mobile app that allows residents to connect with property staff, as well as a marketplace of products and local services.

The timing of the collaboration coincides with a sharp increase in adoption of smart devices. According to the 2017 NMHC/Kingsley Renter Preferences Report that surveyed 250,000 apartment residents, nearly one-third of those polled own between five and nine internet-connected devices. Apartment communities have taken notice, and are discovering it pays to integrate smart devices into units, as the study also found renters are willing to pay $30 more a month for certain smart devices.

“We have acquired more than $2 billion in apartments and have invested more than $200 million in upgrades and renovations in the past five years,” Scott Everett, founder and CEO of S2 Capital, a national multifamily investment platform. “We’ve always been committed to seeking out best-in-class technologies that help us continue to evolve the apartment living experience. Having worked with many providers in this space, Zego is a trailblazer in its ability to deliver on the promise of a holistic resident app experience, enabling us to provide residents what they want from their smart apartment, as well as what property managers need.”

This news comes as Zego reveals it has been implemented in over 16,000 units across 80 multifamily communities nationwide. To keep up with growing demand for its offering, the company has tripled its team over the past year.

“We have built a team of seasoned real estate professionals and technology visionaries to deliver a solution that is setting the standard for the next generation resident app,” said Adam Blake, CEO of Zego. “Our partnership with S2 is a significant move and validation in the market and their subsequent collaboration with Amazon helps us make units more attractive to prospective residents, while improving operational efficiencies for property owners. We are committed to bringing this technology to the masses, and with this news, it’s clear smart home technology is no longer reserved for luxury homes and apartments.”

Through this relationship, smart-home enabled units will include an Amazon Echo, so that residents can control smart home devices such as smart locks, lights, thermostats and wall plugs with the Zego app, or simply by asking Alexa. In addition, residents can also use their Echo device to connect to Alexa to play music, make calls, set music alarms, ask questions and more. Soon, residents will also have the ability to communicate with apartment staff, pay rent, and more via an Alexa skill.

Zego is showcasing its technology at at the upcoming NMHC OpTech Conference & Exposition (booth #928) in Orlando, FL, and CEO Adam Blake is also presenting as part of OpTech’s Marketplace Stage. For more information about the company and its solution, please visit https://www.zego.io/.
