Press Releases
Nov 16, 2017
ARLINGTON, Va. and BERKELEY, Calif., Nov. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Bloomberg Law and the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology (BCLT) at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law today announced a strategic alliance centered on highlighting the rapid changes occurring at the intersection of law and technology and their impacts on law students and practitioners. The alliance has three aspects: student education, content development, and events.
Bloomberg Law will co-sponsor three of BCLT’s major conferences and will co-produce with BCLT a new event on legal and regulatory issues related to emerging technology. Berkeley Law students will be educated by Bloomberg Law experts regarding the revolutionary impact that technology is having on the practice of law, introducing them to the growing range of content, practitioner tools, and analytics available on the innovative research and business intelligence platform. BCLT faculty and fellows will develop content for Bloomberg Law subscribers on legal and regulatory issues related to emerging technologies, focused in particular on privacy and intellectual property.
In addition to co-producing and co-hosting with BCLT a 2018 event on legal and regulatory issues related to emerging technology, Bloomberg Law will co-sponsor three BCLT events in the coming months: Advanced Patent Law Institute: Silicon Valley, the Annual Privacy Law Forum: Silicon Valley, and the Privacy Law Scholars Conference.
“We are very excited to work collaboratively with BCLT to educate legal professionals on the legal and regulatory issues surrounding emerging technologies such as driverless cars and artificial intelligence,” said Alex Butler, Vice President & General Manager of Corporate, Tech & IP for Bloomberg Law. “This area of law is one of the most dynamic and our subscribers will benefit tremendously as we showcase the work of BCLT’s law professors and fellows on the Bloomberg Law platform.”
“Technology is profoundly affecting our lives, posing difficult legal and policy questions. At the same time, technology is changing the practice of law, creating opportunities for improved client service at lower cost. On both fronts — technology’s impact on our daily lives and the tech revolution in the practice of law itself — this relationship with Bloomberg Law will help Berkeley Law School broaden its leadership role,” said Jim Dempsey, executive director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology. “We look forward to working with Bloomberg Law to bring new insights and resources to our students and to the law and technology community.”
