Press Releases

Nov 01, 2017

WALLDORF, Germany, Nov. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) today announced the launch of a new data solution, SAP® Student Activity Hub, to provide real-time insight into student behavior and success. The aim of SAP Student Activity Hub is to measurably improve student success, with the long-term goal being to make higher education more affordable, accessible and relevant to students and society.

“Now SAP is bringing the power of the SAP HANA® platform, SAP Analytics solutions and next-gen innovation to give institutions unprecedented insight into student activity,” said Malcolm Woodfield, global head of Higher Education and Research at SAP. “We have long been a provider of enterprise analytics to university business, and now we are extending that platform to include multiple types of information about students and how their activities correlate to their potential success.”

SAP Student Activity Hub has been developed in collaboration with the University of California San Diego and the University of Kentucky. Vince Kellen, CIO of UC San Diego, said, “The SAP Student Activity Hub solution itself is critical to addressing real needs, including comprehensive learning, real-time analytics and personalized messaging. The opportunity to use predictive analytics to manage student engagement and a hub for a comprehensive view of each student are key benefits of this solution.”

UC San Diego plans to use data analytics from SAP for the reporting and analysis of student data, from all campus sources — providing a full 360-degree, real-time profile of each student, which can be used to help ensure each student’s individual success on campus.

  • SAP has chosen to use the Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) instead of forcing customers to adapt to vendor-specific or proprietary formats. SAP partnered with UC San Diego and the University of Kentucky to build and embed delivered student and learning analytical content into the solution. This content uses many years of experiences in university analytics and will allow institutions to shorten the road to a more data-driven future.
  • The solution captures data from key sources like the student information systems (SIS), academic learning management systems (LMS) and other student data sources which today are scattered across campus, leaving universities with an incomplete vision of their “customers.”
  • SAP Student Activity Hub secures the data around the individual student experience, evolving and learning with the student, and provides new opportunities to build personal profiles of every student based on real-time data by “joining the dots” from scattered data sources on campus.
  • SAP also provides embedded tools to extend SAP Student Activity Hub into more advanced scenarios such as predictive analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
