“We couldn’t be prouder of Gen. John Allen – not just for what he has done for our country over a long career of service or what he is doing today in service of our company’s mission to solve complex problems through AI, but also for what Gen. Allen will continue to do for the world as the leader of one of the nation’s most thoughtful institutions,” said Amir Husain, Founder and CEO of SparkCognition. “We are humbled that he will continue to help us find solutions for some of the greatest technological challenges of our time, including our efforts to build and deploy cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence systems and products important to our national security.”

Allen brings unparalleled and valuable experience to this new role following his exceptional career in defense and national security. In addition to serving as an Executive Board Member to SparkCognition, Allen, a retired United States Marine Corps four-star General and past Deputy Commander of U.S. Central Command, previously served as Commander of the International Security Assistance Force and U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A). He also has served as a Brookings Senior Fellow for foreign policy and as the co-director of the Center for 21st Century Security and Intelligence. Allen will continue to serve on SparkCognition’s Executive Board.

“When we welcomed Gen. Allen to our Executive Board we were honored to have one of the finest military leaders and strategists of our generation advising our company,” continued Amir Husain. “His experience on defense and security issues will bring fine leadership to the Brookings Institution, and we are grateful that as one of our nation’s most respected and experienced military experts, Gen. Allen, will continue to provide counsel and serve an integral advisor to the SparkCognition team.”

Former President Barack Obama appointed Allen as Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, where he led the complex assignment of building, from conception, a robust international coalition that would undertake a wide range of political, diplomatic, military, economic, and other efforts to degrade and ultimately defeat ISIL.

“Gen. Allen represents the very best of American leadership. He has served our nation with distinction and honor, and has dedicated his life to ensuring safety and prosperity for the American people,” said Wendy Anderson, GM of Defense and National Defense for SparkCognition. “He is not only one of our most brilliant wartime military commanders, he is also a statesman and scholar with immense policy experience. The Brookings Institution represents the very best of American intellectual leadership, and Gen. Allen will bring gravitas and tremendous leadership acumen to the organization.”
