DENVER, Aug. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Galvanize and Amazon are collaborating on a nationwide program to train engineers to become Alexa skill developers. Beginning in August, Galvanize will host free, half-day workshops across seven campuses with a goal of educating new developers on the future of voice-first development and how to leverage Amazon Alexa through the Alexa Skills Kit.

“Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing not only how we live and interact with the world, but how businesses operate, develop products and engage with their customers,” said Galvanize Chief Marketing Officer, Pamela Ratti. “The nationwide program enables us to provide the training developers need to build groundbreaking AI experiences through voice recognition facilitated by Amazon Alexa.”

Students will learn how to build a voice user interface (VUI) and prepare for the jobs of tomorrow in AI, VUI design and voice computing. The workshops are aimed at developers interested in learning the basics of creating an Alexa skill.

“We’re excited to be working with Galvanize to bring voice design education to more developers looking to expand their expertise and create Alexa experiences,” said Rob Pulciani, Director, Amazon Alexa. “This program shows it’s easy to get started building for voice and developers all over the country are already changing the way people interact with technology through natural, voice-first experiences with Alexa. We can’t wait to see what the Galvanize community creates.”

The Amazon Alexa team and Galvanize worked together to form the workshop curriculum. Galvanize instructors will facilitate half-day Alexa skill development workshops to tech enthusiasts, designers, developers and anyone interested in learning more about data science,  machine learning and designing for voice. Workshop attendees will learn about VUI and will gain experience with three services: Alexa Skills Kit, AWS Lambda, and the Node.js backend JavaScript framework.

There will be 35 workshops in 2017, one per month per location, across seven Galvanize campuses in San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Denver, Boulder, Phoenix and New York. For more details or to sign up, visit www.galvanize.com/alexa-workshops
