ATLANTA, July 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Liaison Technologies, a leader in cloud-based integration and data management solutions, today announced that Antonio Ferris of Mesa, Arizona, has been awarded the first-ever Liaison Data-Inspired Future Scholarship, earning a $5,000 prize to help pay for his college expenses.

Antonio Ferris, Winner of the Liaison Data-Inspired Future Scholarship

A stand-out 2017 graduate of BASIS Mesa High School, Ferris will attend Stanford University in the fall, majoring in computer science and electrical engineering. He plans to pursue a career in cutting-edge data research to help expand machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) applications into new fields that will solve business and societal challenges.

“It’s a great honor to win this scholarship from Liaison, especially since it’s a perfect match for my field of study,” Ferris said. “One of my personal goals is to pay my own way through college, and this generous scholarship from Liaison Technologies really helps!”

“Our society is built on data, and it’s getting more complex, with data becoming deeply involved in how people live their lives,” he continued. “I’m fascinated by the possibilities to improve society with the ability to better analyze and take action based on new data-inspired insights.”

Ferris was selected from among a large pool of highly qualified candidates based on his stellar resume, academic performance and his 60-second video submission highlighting the critical importance of data in transforming business and society, along with several advances moving us closer to a data-inspired future.

Given the rapid increase in the volume, variety and velocity of data—and the potential it has for revolutionizing society—the Liaison Data-Inspired Future scholarship aims to encourage young people to consider the influential role of data and apply their talents to drive innovation.

A National Merit Scholar and National AP Scholar, Ferris has already developed and released a free smartphone app to help consumers calculate the true cost of credit card purchases and make smarter financial decisions. In 2015, he founded a non-profit that leverages technology to empower anyone to help solve world problems and formed a Science Helps chapter at his school. Ferris is proficient in numerous programming languages and 3D modeling, has participated in the highly selective Barrett Summer Scholars Program for Engineering, Stanford’s Speech and Debate Summer Institute, and has completed Stanford’s Machine Learning class through Coursera while still in high school.

“Antonio already has an outstanding dossier and is a highly ambitious young man who clearly has a passion for harnessing the power of data to make an impact in the world,” said Pamela Osborne, director of human resources for Liaison Technologies. “He is exactly the type of individual we’re looking to recognize and cultivate with this scholarship program—bright, enterprising and inquisitive with the vision to create a more vibrant future driven by data. He has the talent to help us overcome obstacles to get there and to better integrate, secure and derive insight from data.”

The next round of applications for the Liaison Data-Inspired Future Scholarship are being accepted now with a final deadline of October 31. The winner will be notified by November 30, in time for spring semester. For more information and application details, visit www.liaison.com/scholarship.
