Dispel Named a 2017 Gartner Cool Vendor in Unified Communications

NEW YORK, June 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Dispel, a leader in secure collaborative systems and software-defined perimeters, today announced it has been selected as a 2017 Gartner Cool Vendor in Unified Communications (May 11, 2017, Mike Fasciani, Bern Elliot, Steve Blood, Tom Eagle, Adam Preset). Dispel offers a comprehensive suite of simple, secure products for all workers at companies of any size seeking to protect intellectual property and material activity; secure networks against monitoring and intrusion; and prevent downtime from attacks such as DDoS and ransomware. In addition to industries facing cyberattacks, Dispel provides collaboration and data products for employees in volatile geopolitical regions.

According to Gartner, “The shift to cloud-based videoconferencing services has been a major theme in the unified communications and collaboration (UCC) space for the past few years, and momentum in that direction continues to build. As large global enterprises, government agencies and financial services market segments consider following this trend, they often ask whether it puts them at greater security risk.”

“Companies are seeking novel, proven technologies to secure their data worldwide without compromising productivity,” said Ethan Schmertzler, CEO of Dispel. “We are extremely pleased to be recognized as a 2017 Cool Vendor by Gartner, because we believe it acknowledges the fundamental shift in demand by industry for secure platforms that are easy to use, and immune to traditional attack vectors. Dispel offers customers a truly unique and simple solution for global collaboration that workers prefer to use.”

Gartner states in the Cool Vendor report, “With cyberattack security concerns on the rise, application leaders for unified communications (UC) are demanding security competencies when selecting cloud-based conferencing providers.”

Dispel is an easy-to-use communications platform that creates highly secure, private enclaves for information exchanges. Dispel creates interoperable voice, video, messaging, file sharing, and design applications inside Reconnaissance Resistant Networks; mitigating the threat of corporate espionage and cyberattacks—keeping company information secret and secured.

Reconnaissance Resistant Networks (“RRNs”) are a proprietary class of software-defined perimeter introduced by Dispel in 2014. RRNs can be deployed in under 30 minutes by an average non-technical user; easily integrate with third party systems; and provide a traceless, encrypted, scalable network within which a company can operate. For video conferences that last minutes, to data exchanges lasting months, Dispel allows workers to collaborate in high-speed, cloud-based environments accessible from any device. When a session ends and data preservation is complete, the secure enclave is destroyed, improving security and lowering costs by eliminating the need for maintenance, updates, or manual configuration.

According to Gartner, “The unified communications (UC) landscape has evolved during the past few years, due to global market trends such as increased automation through artificial intelligence (AI), web-service-based consumption, heightened awareness of security vulnerabilities, and the massive expansion of connected devices. These trends have converged to create an opportunity for companies to enable their employees and customers to securely engage and collaborate in new ways — from anywhere, at any time, using any device, in any application.”

Gartner recommends companies “choose a conferencing service provider focused on security capabilities, rather than a general purpose conferencing provider, when the risk and cost of a potential cyberattack is high.”

Dispel pioneered the development and remains the sole provider of Reconnaissance Resistant Networks, giving companies and institutions of any size the ability to use the applications and services they already enjoy, from the devices they prefer, with transparent and minimal latency security.

Dispel solutions include:

  • Dispel data rooms, video conferencing, messaging, VoIP telephony, virtual desktops, and VPN products.
  • Dispel Cloud Provisioning for custom resource deployment within RRNs; providing intelligent virtual machine orchestration across six major cloud providers and on on-premises hardware.
  • Integrations: Dispel for Apple macOS, Microsoft Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, Polycom, and more.
  • Device support for IoT, hardware, and legacy endpoints.

Caruma Technologies Integrates RapidSOS Technology into Intelligent Connected-Vehicle Platform for Faster Emergency Response

SAN FRANCISCO, June 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Caruma Technologies, Inc., The Intelligent Connected-Vehicle Platform™ company, and RapidSOS, an advanced emergency technology company, announced today that they are bringing emergency response cloud infrastructure capabilities to Caruma Technologies’ AI-Powered Open Vehicle Network™ to ensure faster help from emergency responders after serious car crashes. By integrating RapidSOS’s unique technology, Caruma can automatically transmit critical details in emergency situations—vision-augmented context, location, and vehicle information—providing 911 centers with lifesaving data to accelerate response times and improve situational awareness.

Unlike landline calls which are instantly identified and located by existing 911 systems, calls from mobile phones cannot always be precisely determined. In emergencies, where the caller may not know their location or be able to communicate, RapidSOS’s technology uses the video and data collected by Caruma’s system—such as a view of the driver, contact info, vehicle location and condition--to provide dispatchers with information to better assess the situation and know which resources to deploy.

Existing 911 systems can instantly identify and locate landline calls in emergency situations; however, calls from mobile phones often cannot be precisely located by these systems and precious time is wasted trying to locate mobile callers.

Caruma’s solution combines artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision with high definition video and supplemental data collected by its windshield-mounted Caruma Cam device that automatically detects a crash. With RapidSOS’s technology, Caruma’s system will have the ability to send critical details into the 911 system to provide situational context—such as a view of the driver and passengers, the driver’s contact data, vehicle location and overall condition—so emergency responders can better assess the situation. If the driver is unconscious, emergency contacts can call 911 on behalf of a loved one, transmitting location and rich data to 911 so help can arrive quickly.

RapidSOS’s technology also supplements Caruma’s ability to provide security from vehicle theft and tampering when parked or the engine is off. When a security threat is detected by Caruma’s proximity sensors and video cameras, an alert along with visual evidence is immediately sent to the driver. With the driver’s confirmation, a voice connection with 911 automatically is established and the vehicle location and other rich data is sent to 911 so help can be dispatched quickly.

“RapidSOS is leading the way in advanced emergency technology and we believe that this combination will give customers next level protection in connected vehicles with Caruma’s computer vision expertise,” said Michael Martin, CEO of RapidSOS. “Caruma’s value proposition of being an open connected platform fits well with our strategy and we look forward to a successful partnership that ultimately benefits emergency response systems and the people that rely on them.”

“Caruma is extremely pleased to be able to advance our offerings with RapidSOS and their emergency response solution,” said Chris Carson, CEO of Caruma Technologies Inc. “By integrating their 911 response technology, it will give us another advantage as we drive our software platform into the market and share the benefits of our AI-based computer vision technology.”

The Caruma Control™ technology platform connects in-car cameras and sensor hardware to a continuous learning cloud and an artificial intelligence powered open vehicle network, which ‘learns’ the behavioral patterns of drivers and passengers, situational factors external to the vehicle and road infrastructural changes. Integrating RapidSOS’s unique technology improves response time for 911 dispatch and responders through a faster and more efficient transmission of voice and critical data into the 911 emergency ecosystem and furthers Caruma’s market-leading platform, which provides customers and partners a unique element to address driver safety and vehicle security.

About RapidSOS
RapidSOS is an advanced emergency technology company that is partnering with the 9-1-1 Community to provide precise wireless location and rich data to 9-1-1, without the need for an app, at no cost to PSAPs. The result is faster, more effective emergency response. Formed in 2012 and backed by some of the world’s top technologists, RapidSOS was named “2016 Start-Up of the Year” by the Consumer Technology Association, a Top Innovation of 2015 by MIT News, and Top 3 Innovative World Technologies by SXSW. Krotos releases new sound design technology

EDINBURGH, Scotland, June 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Krotos develops innovative technologies that fundamentally change the way sound effects are created. Krotos’ Dehumaniser wowed Hollywood and the video game industry by making it possible for actors to perform other-worldly creature growls in blockbusters like Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Jungle Book, Far Cry 4, Doom, and League of Legends. Now, with the launch of Reformer, Krotos makes it possible to actually design sound effects with your voice or any other live audio input.

Unleashed from the constraints of the mouse and keyboard, Reformer allows sound artists to sculpt effects in real-time. Imagine using your voice to design a dramatic explosion in an action movie.  Artists can go beyond using the voice, and use any audio input to design a sound effect. For example, the engine revs of a street racer can be re-formed into ferocious black panther snarls.

Reformer is now available as a plugin for the Avid Pro Tools digital audio workstation and other popular sound editorial environments. Visit to download Reformer and the Black Leopard sound effects library for free, and purchase additional sound effects libraries.

Krotos founder Orfeas Boteas explained that, “Reformer uses artificial intelligence and advanced signal analysis to allow you to perform sound effects with your voice or any other audio input.  In real-time, Reformer profiles the input sound, and then drawing from a palette of user-selected library sounds, uses that profile to sculpt a new sound effect.”  Bryan Celano, supervising sound designer on hit franchises like Dead Space, Final Fantasy, Gears of War, and Metal Gear Solid, commented that, “From the second I first spoke into the mic and heard the output from Reformer, I was very excited. It’s an awesome new way to work with sound effects libraries.”

Krotos has produced custom sound effects libraries for Reformer and partnered with renowned sound effects library producers like BOOM Library and SoundBits to make over 100 libraries available to users. BOOM creator Axel Rohrbach said, “Reformer is a very inspiring and fun way to use sound libraries. It easily and smoothly blends audio material.”

Sony Makes "Core Libraries" of its Deep Learning Tools Available as Open Source

TOKYO, June 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Corporation today announced that it has made its “Neural Network Libraries” ( that serve as a framework for creating deep learning programs for artificial intelligence, available in open source. Software engineers and designers will now be able to make use of these core libraries free of charge to develop deep learning programs and incorporate them into their products and services. This shift to open source is also intended to enable the development community to further build on the core libraries’ programs.

Deep learning refers to a form of machine learning that uses neural networks modeled after the human brain. By making the switch to deep learning-based machine learning, the past few years have seen a rapid improvement in image and voice recognition technology, even outperforming humans in certain areas. Compared to conventional forms of machine learning, deep learning is especially notable for its high versatility, with applications in a wide variety of fields besides image and voice recognition, including machine translation, signal processing, and robotics. As proposals are made to expand the scope of deep learning to fields where machine learning has not been traditionally used, there has been an accompanying surge in the number of deep learning developers.

The work of neural network design is very important for deep learning program development. Programmers construct the neural network best suited to the task at hand, such as image or voice recognition, and load it into a product or service after optimizing the network’s performance through a series of trials. The software contained in Sony’s core libraries (operation module group) efficiently facilitates all the above-mentioned development processes, and incorporates the following necessary elements for deep learning R&D.

  • All-purpose Execution Environment

The software in Sony’s core libraries is predominantly written in C++11, a programming language that runs in a variety of environments (OS and hardware, including GPUs) and operates on Linux, Windows, and a multitude of other platforms.

  • High Efficiency Development Environment

On top of the C++ core libraries, Sony provides a layer of Python interface functions. Python is the prevailing programming language for deep learning development which allows for easy prototyping and high efficiency development. Because this allows for intuitive neural network design with fewer lines of code, it allows developers to focus on creating neural networks while developing technology that uses deep learning more efficiently, in less time, and at lower cost.

  • Multifunctionality

They are equipped with the flexibility and expressiveness to keep up with the latest in the ever-innovating field of deep learning while also coping with the dynamic nature of neural networks

  • High-speed Operation

Compatible with Nvidia GPUs, Sony’s core libraries can carry out neural network learning and execution at the highest available speeds, allowing for deep learning supported tech development with lower iteration time.

  • Modification Made Easy

Furthermore, developing and adding new functions as needed on the leading edge of deep learning is simple. For example, it is easy to add optimizer modules as well as function blocks, which are structural elements of neural networks.

  • Simple Hardware Transplanting

The core libraries were built with transfers to new hardware in mind, and enable simple transplants to hardware such as smartphones and IoT devices.

Sony’s R&D Platform and System R&D Group have used these core libraries as a base for products and services that incorporate deep learning. These include AR Effect, a SmartAR (augmented reality) app for the Xperia™ smartphone series’ camera; Lifelog, an activity tracker app that uses action recognition technology; and the Price Estimation Engine, which provides highly accurate contract price estimates when buying and selling real estate.

This policy forms one part of Sony’s AI environmental improvement initiative. In a world where more goods and services are expected to make use of artificial intelligence to provide higher levels of convenience, Sony is making its core libraries open source in the hope that a wider range of developers and researchers will build on its programs, and with the aim of contributing to the development of society.

SY Lau, Senior Executive Vice President, Chairman of Tencent Advertising and Chairman of Group Marketing and Global Branding, took to the stage at the Festival, in the center between East and West, to showcase Tencent’s role as a connector.
